This course is divided into three modules: Communications, Laboratory-based and Professional modules. For the Communications Module, students will learn about cognitive processes in reading, development of reading and study skills, and scientific communications in the forms of thesis, journal, abstract, oral and poster. For the Laboratory-based Module, students will learn about basic mathematics used for Life Science purposes, common apparatus used in Life Science laboratories, laboratory safety, and preparation of solutions based on various denominations of concentration and quantity. For the Professional Module, students will learn about basic biostatistical terms, Student’s t-test, understand the ethics of science and importance of patenting. Students will also be exposed to the professional profiles of people working in the Biotechnology sector. In addition, case study in Life Science research will be introduced.
